Marina Prokofeva's profile

Dylan Moran & Bill Bailey

Here's a project I started at BHSAD (British Higher School of Art and Design) at 2022, forgot and then finished recently. The task was to create illustration of two persons, who would be recognizable
and have unique gesture.

I chose a couple - Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey - comedians you might know
from the "Black Books" sitcom.

Here's the final double-portrait I made.
Let's see what's behind it!
Sketches from 2022! I watched hours of stand-up but I didn't laugh,
because portraits wasn't my comfort zone.
I faced troubles in research of Manny's head (Bill Bailey). I even sculpted it to use as a reference.
Anyway, it's still too far from the original.
As a part of an education, students were asked to take a selfportraits using image of their characters.
Here you can see me posing with my husband Paul in a paper wig. Love you, Paul.
Sketching process and pose research.
On a first picture I photoshopped a sculptured head and tried to improve the dynamics.
A master of my group told me they look like sleepy drunk puppies and I need to keep it in mind while drawing them (watch the sitcom and you'll agree!). I wanted to find balance between grotesque
so I can show my respect to those persons and make illustration fresh-looking also.
It took several weeks to find the right pose and tone.
I didn't want to over compex illustration, but wanted to keep only key details.
To make it look simple and clean was the hardest thing!
Thank you for watching!
